Encased vertical drain for soft cohesive soil consolidation and consolidated soft cohesive soil comprising the same. The encased vertical drain (1) for soft cohesive soil consolidation includes a tubular plastic encasement (2) having water ingress apertures (3) along the length thereof and a geotextile sheath (4) formed in the plastic encasement against the inner wall thereof and a stiffening and water permeable filler material (5) filled and compacted in the plastic encasement against the geotextile sheath (Fig 2).
