In this paper the effect of the addition of lanthanide oxides(Er_2O_3/Gd_2O_3/CeO_2) on the sintering behaviour of hyperstoichiometricUO_(2+x) in a Co_2 atmosphere is studied. Both retardation and dedensificationphenomena that appear during the reactive sintering that takes place in thesesystems are related to the competition between the shrinkage due to sintering andthe volume expansion due to reaction.
