We developed the special test set-up to measure currents in each of six separate strands or subcables of a multistrand cable at frequencies from 0 to 120 Hz and at currents up to thousand amperes. At the first experiments we studied the stimulated quench test of the 36 strand NbTi cable with insulated strands. One of subcables was deliberately quenched by the heater. It was found that depending on the current level there may be a total quench of the cable, quench of the heated subcable only or quench and recovery of the heated subcable or subcables. The last, quench-recovery mode, was not observed before. The threshold current between stable and unstable regions was estimated from "single-strand" stability criteria.
