The performances of Melt Cast Processed (MCP) Bi-2212 conductors with integrated silver contacts progressed rapidly during the last years. Nowadays, tubes of a diameter of 0 = 0.3 m and a length up to 0.5 m are fabricated. The critical current in Φ = 70 mm tubes reaches values in the 10 kA range at 77 K and the current density approaches J_c = 10 A/mm~2. As a first application, it has been proven that this interesting current carrying capacity in conjunction with a very low thermal conductivity allows the fabrication of high performance current leads for low temperature applications. Other applications are investigated here with encouraging perspectives, as field windings, power transformers or current limiters. The possibility for operation of this material under electrical fields up to 300 V/m is investigated and the consequences for fault current limitation is worked out.
