In order to determine temperatures in orthogonal cutting, a technique based on the use of infrared-CCD camera has been developed. This method makes it possible to obtain the complete distribution of temperatures at the cutting edge of the tool. To conduct this experimental analysis, a finite element method is used to calculate the temperatures in orthogonal cutting under steady state conditions. The comparison of simulation and experiments allows us to study the thermal flux distribution and tounderstand the influence of various parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate or material properties.
