Pressure vessel and flow experiments have been used to identify the solid phases that form by reaction with magnetite under sodium phosphate hideout conditions in high pressure boilers. Solubility and X-ray diffraction studies have provided new structural and thermodynamic data for the iron(III) reaction product at temperatures up to 325 deg C. The results describe several key factors that control phosphate hideout.
