New patented methods to monitor and control treatment chemicals in cooling water systems are described. Fluorescence-based technology provides on-line measurement of dosages and consumption of corrosion inhibitors, scale inhibitors, and dispersants. ~(1-6)Chemical consumption changes relate to performance changes and provide problem-solving tools in the system. Systme consumption of treatment actives is the difference between the amount of actives added and remaining in the system. Inert tracers provide on-line monitoring and control of overall dosages and distribution of treatment programs. This also provides problem-solving tools for cooling water systems. Four case histories of cooling water systems are presented.
