The characteristics of electrical heaters in which the Joule effect takes place in the wall of tubes are studied. It is shown that two dimensionless parameters are sufficient to model these heaters. Online principles using artificial neural networks are presented, and are applied to identify a circulation heater as a MISO system. Influences of the number of neurons in the hidden layer, of the size of the regression vector, and of the quantify of information contained in the identification window are studied. Finally, the optimal combination is given.
