The main macerals of coal and carbonaceous mudstone (see Table 3) for liquid hydrocarbon generation are fluorescent desmocollinite, bituminite, cutinite and suberinite, which have generated liquid hydrocarbon in low rank (VR_r = 0.4%~0.6%) on the basis of our study on hydrocarbon generated indications (e.g. oil drops, oil films and micrinite). We examined oil samples from these basins with CLSM and TEM, and discovered some vitrodetrinites under CLSM. The reflectance of these vitrodetrinites is similar to that of coal or carbonaceous mudstone in coal measures of the two basins; in addition, a lot of submicro-macerals and Jurassic microfossils were discovered under TEM (Fig. 1 and Fig. 2). The conventional oil was short of these evidences.
