It is shown that production rates of the pseudoscalar and vector mesons (apart from pions) and, octet and decuplet baryons, weighted with the spin and isospin counting factors, are described as a function of their masses squared by a simple exponential exp(-(M/6)2). The relative production rates of these particles are independent of energy and practically the same for e+e~ and pp collisions (for particles not resulting from fragmentation of incident protons). These regularities are reflected in behaviour of the charged particle multiplicity distributions in e+e~ and p±p collisions.
