Two earlier developed and described non-linear system identification methods are applied to an isolated non-linear element (i.e. an electro-dynamic shaker) in order to extract a reliable physical model that will be further incorporated within a MDOF linear beam structure. Response calculations are carried out for the coupled system, based on a convolution integral procedure and on a describing function frequency domain approach. Comparisons are made with experimental data. It can be concluded that the non-linear identification methods yield a reliable model for predictive calculations of coupled non-linear systems.
