The requirements for 11 % Cr ferritic stainless steel sheet include good formability and high r-bar values for certain applications. By stabilization with titanium and niobium, better properties can be achieved than with titanium only. This study analyzes the annealing behavior of two of these steels, with particular focus on texture development. The titanium-only stabilized steel recrystallizes in a discontinuous mode, resulting in weak annealing textures. In the niobium containing steel, discontinuous recrystallization is retarded while continuous recrystallization is enhanced. The strong texture of this steel develops only in the later annealing stages. Grain coarsening is shown to be an important mechanism for the formation of strong annealing textures in the dual stabilized steel.
