A unique analytical and hierarchic methodology for mastering the clamping and the sealing analysis of an automotive engine block assembly is presented. The different levels of finite element modelisations are described; a flowchart of the entire process analysis focused on the cylinder-head multilayered metallic gasket technology is presented. Numerical results and correlation between these results and engine reliability tests and specific static tests are illustrated using the industrial application of a Renault engine to demonstrate the efficiency of the approach.
