Near field modelling and measurement of tapered optical fibre devices

An adaptive finite difference beam propagation method (FD-BPM) technique has been used to successfully model the behavior of the evanescent field of single mode optical fibre tapers. Good agreement with results obtained with a near field optical microscope have been made.
