A series of mathematical models was developed for the pretreatment stage in kenaf ASCMP, by employing multivariate function non-linear regression. The synergistic effects of four different oprating variables were included in the models, aiming at obtaining a quantitative relationship between these variables and the pulping performance. Optimal models can be developed with the appropriate selection of the target function, the restriction function and restriction conditions. Then, through computer optimization, a series of boundary optimal values can be abtained, providing a means for the optimization of the pretreatment stage.
