Bleaching characteristics of wheat straw CMP had been studied. Wheat straw CMP with low brightness and poor bleaching performance is difficult to be bleached to any more than 50~55% (ISO) with single stage or two stage hydrogen peroxide bleaching. Alternative methods were studied to improve the bleaching performance of wheat straw CMP, including sodium hyprochlorite pretreatment, acid hydrogen peroxide pretreatment, activation agent pretreatment and strengthening agent addition to peroxide sydrogen solution. It was found that the bleaching performance of wheat straw CMP could be much improved when activation agent Q and strengthening agent N were employed. Wheat straw CMP could be bleached from 22.8% (ISO) to 70. 4% (ISO) by employing a Q-P_N-P_2 sequence.
