In advanced CMOS, and BiCMOS, ESD and latchup continues to be an issue. In this paper, we will discuss various computer aided design (CAD) methodologies to address both ESD and CMOS latchup. In the development of ESD protection, new methods are needed for mixed signal (digital and analog), and radio frequency (RF) applications. The need to integrate both digital, analog, and RF circuits and achieve both ESD objectives, and latchup goals is more difficult. With system-on-chip (SOC) and network-on-chip (NOC) applications, new challenges are proceeding in VLSI design.
