The trajectory of the intrusion layer in a rectangular basin of differnet lengths was analyzed numerically. The flow configuration consisted of an inlet channel, a rectangular basin and a nrrow exit. A transitory, two dimensional turbulent flow, with a k- epsilon model, was considered in a horizontal plane located between the bottom and the free surface. The flow in the basin became asymmetric with time. The maximum velocity appeared on either side of the line of symmetry of the configuration. the flow trajecotyr presented different patterns as the length of the basin was increased for a constant Reynolds number. Not significnat differences were found for a basin of constant length when the Reynolds number was varied from 25000 to 12500.
