Aeroservoleastic tailoring has been used in a variety of efforts. The goal of these efforts have been to change the static and dynamic behavior of wings and wing-like surfaces through a combination of aeroelastic tailoring and the design of a suitable control system. However, a comprehensive examination of aeroserveoelastic tailoring for gust response has not been performed to the best of the author's knowledge. This study begins to examine aeroelastic and aeroservoelastic tailoring for gust response. To do this, optimization techniques are used to examine the limits of closed-loop gust response performance for a typical section model. As previously shown, the goals of minimum gust response and large instability speed have opposite behavior with respect to several structural parameters.
