Agent-oriented analysis and modeling of intelligent manufacturing systems

An agent-oriented methodology is developed in which the intelligent subsystems of the intelligent manufacturing system(IMS) are represented as agents. Each agent has the knowledge and the knowledge processing ability to perform some tasks. An agent can be either a human expert, an intelligent machine or the integration of the two. An architecture of the agent is presented for usage in the IMS. As an example the methodology is used to analyze and model an intelligent machining cell. The particular features of the methodology are discussed.
