We have considered the effects of radiation on the optical constants of silicate op-ical glasses. The subjects of the investigations were: radiation induced absorption spectra, ESR spectra. We have found that the concept of the radiation resistant analogs (cerium containing) of usual (cerium-free) glasses is valid only approximately. Its violation is due to a number of reasons. First, the initial absorption spectra of cerium containing and cerium-free glasses are different. Second, the induced absorption produced by radiation in pairs of glasses under consideration is also different. Third, we have found for the case of (Fe~(3+))~- centers in these pairs of optical glasses significant differences in the kinetic of postradiation relaxation.
