This paper presents the results of laboratory studies undertaken to assess the properties of real radioactive ashes from incineration facility at the RPA "Radon" (Moscow) as well as products of their vitrification by induction melting in "cold" crucible. The methods of X-ray analysis, DTA and microprobe analysis were used to show that interaction in charges occurs rapidly at 1450°C. Sufficiently homogeneous matrices were produced where along with the vitreous phase a small crystalline inclusions and metallic shots were present. An addition of dolomite and soil increased the homogeneity of the final products and, basically, the volume of ashes was reduced approximately by a factor of 4. Hydrolytic stability of matrices was evaluated by the total alpha-activity leaching value (1.4 - 5.7) × 10{sup}(-4) g/cm{sup}2 xday at 100°C.
