Glass-ceramics especially suitable for incorporating radioactive wastes contain at least two crystal phases selected from the pollucite, mullite, monazite, and, optionally, tetragonal or cubic zirconia as the predominant crystal phase and consist essentially, expressed in weight percent on the oxide basis, of 5-40% Cs2O, 15-50% Al2O3, 0-30% La2O3 + CeO2, 0-20% P2O5, 0-30% ZrO2, 12-65% La2O3 + CeO2 + P2O5, and 15-50% SiO2.;These glass-ceramics provide a matrix material for the incorporation of radioactive waste. The glass ceramics may also be used as a matrix for inorganic fiber composites.
