AMDS A RADIO DATA SYSTEM FOR AM

摘要

The radio data system AMDS is intended for the transmission of digital information on LF, MF and HF transmitters. This information will be transmitted in addition to the sound programme. Current systems with continuous data streams use phase modulation of the RF carrier to convey the data. This kind of modulation is not compatible with SSB and AM-stereo. For this purpose alternative modulation techniques have to be developed. The baseband coding and the data format of AMDS were prepared as a proposal for a European and a world-wide standard. This coding should be used by AM-DSB as well as in future SSB and AM-stereo applications. The system is to a large extent compatible with the existing RDS system and cross references between both systems are possible.
