摘要

A theoretical basis of ASE action in collisional excitation slab lasers is described. Good agreement with experiment for the germanium laser is obtained, and reasonable agreement with limited data for yttrium. It is found that the gain on the 0-1 transition is only accounted for if the collision rate to its upper state is reduced by a factor $HLF over the predicted value.
