Introduction of the benzole recovery operation diagnosing control expert system consisting of the optimization control and the operational abnormality diagnosing system has permitted achievement of an optimum operation. Further efforts are being made to increase the degree of perfection of the system through continuation of tuning of the control models and modification of the diagnostic knowledge. Scope of application of this expert system will further be extended hereafter to the other processes.
