Advanced oxidation processes (AOPS) involving ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and UV must be optimized for the specific application in order to minimize the singificant capital and operating costs associated with these processes. Complete kinetic modeling is not practical for rela-world treatment situations. A model proposed by Hoigne and Bader for hydroxyl radical production and reaction during the ozonation of natural waters has been extended to AOP treatment. Competition from natrual organic material has been included in the simple kinetic model through the evaluation of hydroxyl radical rate constants for the humic material.
