Use of computer graphics for enhancing microelectronics courses in satellite video programs

The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Satellite Video Program (RSVP) offers off-campus students the opportunity to participate in regular academic courses and master's degree programs. One such program is the microelectronics manufacturing program to provide engineers or scientists, working in the semiconductor industry, with manufacturing principles and technology updates. The author describes the experience obtained by the RSVP video production personnel in the use of computer graphics and computer animation to satisfy the needs of a variety of course types, as well as of the diverse teaching styles of the instructors. Computer graphics is an essential tool for generating attractive lecture notes, diagrams and animations of abstract concepts which augment the lecture material and upgrade the quality of the presentation, especially in remote settings. The computer graphics and animations developed for a particular course in the program are described.
