A high performance, three-cavity gyroklystron has been designed for 33.2 GHz and is currently being constructed. It is an extension of Varian Associates' pioneering 28 GHz gyroklystron. Modifications include an additional buncher cavity, lower beam $alpha@, an improved lossy drift tube, and a slight increase in frequency. For an axial velocity spread of 7% and $alpha $EQ 1.5, a self-consistent simulation code predicts an output power of 250 kW with an efficiency of 39% and saturated gain of 52 dB. Mistuning of the penultimate cavity was investigated. For the above velocity spread, mistuning did not improve the efficiency and significantly reduced the gain.
