A more thoroughly study of mechanochemical changes of kaolin during dry fine grinding was made in this paper. Many analysis techniques such as the determination of particle size, SEM, XRD, IR, DTA&DTG, Inverse Gas Chromatography (IGC) and BET multi-layer absorption were used to characterise kaolin samples. In the light of crystal structural characteristics of kaolinite, the mechanisms of amorphisation of crystal structure, dehydroxylation reaction, alternation of surface properties and aggregation of kaolin during dry fine grinding were expounded from the point of view on mechanochemistry.
