The authors introduce an algorithm to evaluate the error probability over Gaussian and Rayleigh fading channels for continuous phase modulation (CPM) with multiple interfering signals using MSK (minimum-shift keying)-type receivers. The error performance associated with space diversity for the ideal MRC (maximal ratio combining) technique is examined. The diversity combining technique, even with only two diversity branches, leads to a large improvement in the error performance. It is seen that by having more diversity branches the performance improves but the system complexity increases. Finally, a closed form expression for the error probability using MRC with correlated diversity branches is presented.
