Luminescence Study of Sol-Gel Derived FED and PDP Nanophosphor Materials for Display Devices

Field Emission Display (FED) and Plasma display Phosphors (PDP) like Sr_2CeO_4 and SrAl_2O_4 have been synthesized through Sol-Gel technique using their respective metal nitrates. Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) of Sr_2CeO_4 showed the emission bands at 475, 580 and 890 nm. The influence of rare earth ions like Y/Eu on the OSL has been studied. Thermally Stimulated Luminescence of Sr_2CeO_4 revealed two glow peaks around 355 and 525K. Incorporation of Eu results in a significant change in respect of TSL intensity. The TSL of SrAl_2O_4 showed only a single glow peak around 350K while in BaAl_2O_4 there is a small feeble glow peak around 345K in addition to the strong peak at 405K. There is a systematic variation of intensity in TSL as the atomic radius of alkaline earth ion is increased. The results of OSL and TSL have been explained in terms of charge transfer and formation of color centers.
