摘要

SCOOT is a computerised road traffic signal control system. The SCOOT system in West Yorkshire was originally commissioned in March 1986, with capacity for 64 outstations. This was expanded to 128 in March 1987. The system is accommodated at Leeds and is planned to serve appropriate networks in the five Metropolitan Districts of West Yorkshire. The software can allow individual junctions to be controlled in either fixed-time or SCOOT mode. Plans are validated on-street with the aid of a roving printer, and a mobile radio is used for direct communications with the control room. The paper summarises the experience gained with SCOOT version 2.3 in West Yorkshire, in order to promote discussion with other users and the designers on how improvements can be pursued.
