New concept in acoustic-articulatory-phonetic relations-perspectives and applications

A novel speech production theory based on distinctive regions along the vocal tract and distinctive modes is used as an explanatory tool in the study of acoustic-regions and phonetic-regions relations. Formant transition behavior can be presented in a simple manner in the F1-F2 plane. A novel command strategy of the vocal tract area function is proposed which offers an important tool for studies in speech dynamics. These insights can be utilized in applications such as acoustic-articulatory inversion, speech coding and recognition, and speech synthesis as well as in research and educational tools.
