The author argues that from the clinical angle, taking into account the inadequate back-up facilities, disease pattern and limited financial resources, a scientific planned approach is essential in a developing country to equip various levels of the health care delivery system in a need-based realistic manner. The clinical needs in developing nations differ from those in the developed nations due to the socioeconomic conditions dependent on geocultural specificity. The value of traditional insights, a holistic health model where health generation and health promotion are stressed and an appropriate mobilization of human resources should form the essential components of this specialized approach.
