CONSIDERATIONS FOR IMPLEMENTING MV DRIVES IN A CEMENT PLANT

Large Variable Frequency Drive installations require considerable planning to be successful. Not only does the installation affect the process, existing electrical equipment, power quality, reliability, training and maintenance programs will also be affected. Important considerations include electrical distribution modifications, ensuring power quality is maintained, proper installation guidelines are followed for the VF Drive, essential electrical and safety protection is implemented, a comprehensive commissioning procedure is followed and maintenance and personnel receive upgrading to service the new equipment. This paper will cover each of these aspects and provide a guideline for considerations during the design stage of new large power VF Drive installations in the Cement Industry.
