Cyclic Spectral Analysis-Based Approach for Power Measurement in Digital Communication Systems in the Presence of In-Channel Interference

A new method for power measurement in digital communication systems in the presence of in-channel interference is proposed. Its original measurement approach is based on a signal-selective algorithm that exploits cyclic spectral analysis. Specifically, the cyclic spectrum of the superposition of desired and interfering signals is evaluated for a cycle frequency at which the desired signal exhibits cyclostationarity, whereas the interfering signal does not, and is then processed to achieve an estimate of the desired signal power. The performance of the method is evaluated through several experiments on spread spectrum and pulse amplitude modulated signals, and with reference to different types of interfering signals. What is notable, the method exhibits very good performance even when desired and interfering signals are modulated according to the same technique, and share either the carrier frequency or the symbol rate.
