the eletrolytic precipitation method is used experimentally to investigate the formation process of the primary vortices of the starting flow around an elliptic cylinder and the phenomenon of the secondary separation at moderate Reynolds numbers. Patterns of separation and shedding of the principal vortices under inclinations = 60°, 90°, 120°are given. The experimental results provide evidence for the further investigation of the complicated feature of the starting process of the flow field around an elliptic cylinder.
