In the domain of oceanography, monitoring of environment parameters has a huge role to play. For those kind of critical monitoring, Underwater Wireless Sensor Network is apt. In routing operation of UWSN, the environmental information is collected and transferred from the bottom of the ocean to the surface station with the help of set of sensor nodes which are distributed over the monitoring regions. But, the main challenge is the limited battery power of the sensor terminals which can drain quickly if the sensor node operates for the longer period of time. This will have bigger impact on the reliability of the routing in UWS Ns. Hence, there is a need for the energy harvesting solutions in UWSNs to remove the dependency which currently exists between the sensor nodes and the battery power. So, in this article, the overview of the routing protocols and the energy harvesting architecture were presented which will help the future researchers working in the energy harvesting for underwater wireless sensor networks.
