The operation of synchronous generators in an electric power system containing electrical receivers with a nonlinear current-voltage characteristic, which generate higher harmonics of current, leads to an increase in losses in its stator and rotor coils. It is connected to the flow of temporary higher harmonics of current in the generator coils. Therefore, for the normal functioning of hydro-generators, interest appears in normalizing their durable permissible non-sinusoidal load. The paper proposes a method for reducing the influence of higher harmonics of current on the operating mode of synchronous hydro-generators. In accordance with the proposed methodology, the permissible generated power of a synchronous hydro-generator is determined when operating on the non-sinusoidal load.
