A Proactive Dynamic Rate Control Scheme for AIMD-Based Reactive TCP Variants

TCP-Transmission Control Protocol is a transport layer protocol. TCP's default interpretation of any loss as a cause of congestion works well with the wired networks but wireless networks suffer from other losses like channel loss, route failure loss which are not distinguishable by TCP. Several TCP variants have been proposed for various types of networks to differentiate various losses and act accordingly. Reactive variants focus on congestion detection and recovery approach while proactive variants focus on congestion avoidance approach. This paper modifies conventional AIMD-Additive Increase Multiplicative Decrease scheme of reactive TCP variants to add a proactive factor for dynamic rate control. Rate control factor is measured from the network stability predicted by analyzing past few RTT-Round Trip Time values. Simulation has been performed in NS 2.35 and tested over scenario-based MANETs.
