Experiments were carried out on five paddy soils in South China. Rheological coefficients and sinking values of farm implements in paddy soils were computed by analytical method. The relationships between the rheological coefficients and water content of paddy soils and between, the rheological coefficients and the components of granularity were analysed. Meanwhile, finite element method was used to calculate the stressed fields and the variation of displacements of various spots as the time elapsed under the effects of elastic tyres of farm implements. Comparison was done among the results calculated with finite element method, the results of actual tests and the results calculated with the analytical method.
