DRAWABILITY THROUGH SHRIIMK-FORMIIMG OF 'DOUBLE REDUCED' TINPLATE (DR8)

The pure drawing (shrink-forming) of two double reduced DR8 quality tinplates ("common quality" and "non-earing" quality) were compared with the drawability of a TU quality "single reduced" tinplate. Despite a reduced adjustment ability of the tools, DR8 tinplate permits the production of cups as deep as those obtained with TU quality tinplate.As concerns DR8 tinplate, the thickness and hardness of the cup wall show only slight variations between bottom and upper end. The "drawing ears"present on the remaining flange are normal and a special metal treatment at the time of rolling and annealing enables the size of these to be reduced.
