Elasticity in the locomotion of mammals

摘要

Kangaroos share many conservative features with other marsupials, but their hind legs and their fast hopping gait give the impression of high specialization. This paper considers whether the principles of fast locomo-tion are similar in kangaroos and more typical mammals, and whether the legs and gait of kangaroos are superior or inferior to those of fast placental mammals.
