As part of the U.S. Army's Armored Combat Vehicle Technology Program, a high mobility/high agility (HIMAG) variable parameter tracked vehicle test bed was developed. The primary objective of testing the HIMAG test vehicle is to derive a data base to evaluate vehicle performance models and their elements that are fundamental in the development of a technology base for the U.S. Army's Research Community. The principal problem facing the testing community was selecting the HIMAG component combinations to be tested in order to demonstrate not necessarily the best but the most "interesting" operational capabilities and thereby to provide the most information. This paper reports how the problem of choosing the limited number of test configurations was approached and describes the parametric analysis and methodologies which were employed for test planning purposes. The parametric analysis required output data from existing computer models utilizing current "State of the art" technology and had to be capable of simulating and predicting the response characteristics of the HIMAG chassis component combinations to be examined. The computer models employed for test planning purposes were: 1) Vehicle Dynamics Ride Evaluation Model 2) Power Train Simulation Model 3) Turning Model 4) AMC '74 Mobility Model. The output and description of each model is presented and the results are given.
