Tractor chassis suspension is an effective measure taken to grant driving security and a high driving comfort. In this respect, fully suspended tractors deliver more advantages regarding the possibilities than conventional tractors, but on the other hand they effect higher production costs. This is true especially for hydro-pneumatically suspended chassis. This paper is to present the investigation of the potential of semi-active suspension system for full suspension tractor. For this a trac-tractor which a conventional suspension was modified with a hydro-pneumatic rear axle suspension. Simulation models were used for the design of the controller of the semi-active suspension system. The tractor was tested on the hydraulic roadway simulator of the Berlin TU. In the course of the experiments significant acceleration values, speeds and ways have been recorded. The experiments have been carried out with a passively and a semi-actively controlled rear axle suspension.
