Anvil Knitwear, an apparel company, is committed to analyzing the environmental impact of its apparel. In 2010, Anvil completed the company's fourth greenhouse gas (GHG) life cycle assessment (LCA) for the AnvilSustainable? t-shirt, which is made from recycled PET plastic bottles and transitional cotton, grown on farms making the switch to organic processes. The analysis of this t-shirt was used to road test a new global framework for product GHG emissions life cycle accounting called the Product Accounting and Reporting Standard. The standard was developed by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the World Resources Institute (WRI) through their Greenhouse Gas Protocol Initiative. Companies participating in the road testing represented 17 countries from every continent and more than 20 industry sectors. Anvil's GHG LCA encompassed a "cradle-to-grave" approach for the tee's value chains. Overall, the analysis found the carbon footprint of the AnvilSustainable~(TM) to be 3.29 kgCO2e/tee.
