Precise and accurate color control can be an important quality differentiator for retail brands. Consumers expect coordinates to match and in-store colors to be consistent regardless of the origin of the article. A goal of many retail companies is to shorten product development cycles while reducing costs and maintaining quality. Complex supply matrixes make it difficult to stream-line development without leveraging and developing supplier competence. In order to reduce costs, it is unrealistic to expect that raw material costs will continue to decline or remain stable. Labor costs will continue to rise in key manufacturing countries like China placing additional upward pressure on pricing at the wholesale and retail levels. One of the best opportunities to reduce costs is to stream-line development processes or to eliminate processes that add no value to the supply chain.
