Efficiency improvement of a dual boost converter with zero voltage switching technique for battery charging application of a Solar Home Lighting System

Below paper presents development of the zero voltage switching(ZVS) dual boost converter for battery charging application in a solar home lighting system. Switching frequency is selected as 20 kHz. The resonant inductor and capacitor values have been designed at this switching frequency. The efficiency of hard switching dual boost converter varies from 88 to 90.5 % whereas for ZVS dual boost converter the efficiency is increased and is in the range of 91.2 to 94.2 % for a maximum load of 37 W. It is observed that there is the improvement in the maximum efficiency of the converter from 90.5 % to 96 % for a maximum load variation up to 37W as compared to hard switching technique.
