The MaxxBass signal processing algorithm is introduced as a new factor in low frequency oudspeaker design.Exploiting the phenomenon of the 'missing fundamental',MaxxBass sitmulates a low frequency atuditory sensation without the need to produce the whole low rfrequency range.A brief review is made o fhte performance limtations in the basds preporoduction of small speakers with emphasis upon the difficulty of efficiently loweing the resonant frequency.,The breakdown in the ear's logarighmic sneisitiviyt at low frequencies is identified as a factor fro satisfa ctory bass performance.With MaxxBass correctly implementned,gains in apparent low rfrequency extension of up to one and a half octiaves are reported. Exampe aplicatiosn of MaxxBass are explored.
